What is Customer Service?

You Should Know, After All You Are a Customer on
Many Occassions

Customer Service Software is One Tool You Can Use To Keep Ahead of The Pack.

What is customer service? Well it could be CRM software solutions or it could be simply how you think.

When I’m training a new group of employees, I always run that question past them first up.

I’ll go around the room, asking each person what they think the answer might be to the question, what is customer service and sometimes, they do have some good answers.

If they can get their head around customer loyalty concepts they're more than half way there.

Over the years, I’ve developed a list of customer service tips, many of which originated from their answers to that question.

They came up with these suggestions, because every one of us has been a customer at some point.

They know what makes them happy and satisfied, as well as what makes them angry and dissatisfied.

So, what is customer service all about really?

It’s about treating the customer the same way as you like to be treated… that’s what will keep them coming back.

Here are four actions that will help make your customers happy.

Get a Real Human to Answer the Phone.

Answer the Phone Personally.

No one likes recorded messages. It may seem simpler for your staff to have a recorded message, but people like to talk to people.

If yours is a small one or two-man operation, have your business calls forwarded to your cell phone. No one expects you to answer after 8 or 9pm, but during business hours, try to answer yourself or have someone else answer your phone.

Sshh... Listen.

You’ll find lists and lists of customer service tips on the internet, but that single word is the most important tip that anyone can offer. Listen to your customers.

Many of the disagreements that occur between customers and employees are a simple matter of the employee’s failure to listen. So, set an example and teach them to listen.

Don’t Ever Make Promises You Can’t Keep.

Unless you are absolutely sure that you can keep them, don’t ever make promises to customers. Your client will feel that you have lied to them.

Train Your Employees.

Always have trainees working with someone that is well-trained in customer service.

Teach employees how to handle situations that commonly come up and give them a little leeway to satisfy their customers, without forcing the customers to wait on your judgment.

This is most important in business to consumer marketing situations.

There are many other customer service tips, but I believe that those four are the most important, especially for new businesses. If you already have a staff, ask them; what is customer service. If they don’t know, they need training.
