Web Site Tips

The Good Ones Are Hard To Find But...
Usually Worth The Effort

A Good Tip Can Supercharge Your Site.

Good quality web site tips are invaluable... worth their weight in gold for all internet based marketing campaigns.

You can cruise the web and every internet guru that has a pulse wants to expose his “never before revealed, known to nobody else on the planet” secret.

The vast majority are worth their weight in cocky dung, but occasionally you can dig up a little gem.

You can always have a chat with a search engine optimization specialist but be prepared to pay.

Remember…

  • A web site without traffic is dead... it doesn’t exist as far as the internet world is concerned
  • A web site with plenty of traffic that doesn’t provide a satisfactory conversion rate will not be profitable

No joy there.

Let’s Talk About Conversion Rates for a Moment…

The formula for calculating your conversion rate is:

(# of conversions/total visits) x 100 = conversion rate

Your conversions may be represented by sales, leads, subscriptions, etc. - whatever you are tracking.

The conversion rate represents a percentage of visitors that actually took the bait.

If you have plenty of traffic, but a low conversation rate, you’ve got problems. It is as simple as that!

Rest assured, I will offer some web site tips to help you resolve that predicament.

Web Site Tips for Driving Traffic…

Low on Traffic? Try Some of These Low-Budget Tips…

  • Do some keyword research.
  • Use a combination of keywords that are high in demand and relatively low in supply.

The higher the demand, the more people are using that word as a search terms, the lower the supply, the less competition there is for that word.

  • Make sure that your keywords are properly used in your web site tags.
  • Each web page should have a specific keyword and secondary keywords.

The specific keyword should appear in the filename, the title, the description as well as in a keyword tag in which the secondary keywords should also appear.

  • Ensure that the keywords are used appropriately in the content of your web pages.
  • The primary keyword should appear in a headline on a page and should be used in the actual content along with the secondary keywords.

Be careful not to stuff a page with keywords or you will experience penalties from the search engines.

The placement of keywords can be confusing, but basically it needs to be included in the first or second sentence on a page and used no more than once for every 100 words.

  • Be sure to provide a lot of web pages with fresh, informative content.
  • Content is king with the search engines. This is reinforced in almost every list of web site tips, and it deserves your attention.

Constantly add content-rich, keyword-related web pages or blog content to your website.

  • Concentrate on getting links coming into your web site from topic related websites and directories.
  • These links will send some traffic to your web site, but the main purpose in these web site tips is actually to improve your search engine ranking.

A top listing in the search engines will send loads of traffic to your website.

  • If all else fails, do a little bit of pay-per-click advertising.
  • Doing such advertising will cut into your budget, but you only pay for clicks that actually take visitors to your website.

The advertising programs give you the option to set your budget, so you won’t receive an enormous bill that you didn’t plan for.

And with ongoing PPC management your costs will be restricted to a minimum.

Web Site Tips for Improving Your Conversion Rate…

Plenty of traffic, but lacking on positive outcomes?

  • Test the load rate of your website.
  • Sadly, internet browsers are impatient by nature. If your website takes more than a few seconds to load, you are likely to lose visitors before they even view what you have to offer.

Make sure any pictures and/or graphics are low resolution... don’t worry screen resolution is only 72DPI so they’ll look fine.

Improving the load rate may do you a lot of good.

  • Check for broken links and navigation errors.
  • People become impatient & irritated when the navigation of a website is unclear or doesn’t take them where they expected to go.

If they hit a broken link they are likely to write you off.

  • Make sure that outgoing links open in a new window.
  • You may provide outgoing links in an effort to be helpful to the visitors; however, if it doesn’t open in a new window and leave your website up for their return, you are just sending your valuable visitors to another website.

  • Be certain that your website offers value from the visitor’s perspective.
  • If your content is trying to sell, sell, sell… then you started off on the wrong foot.

You must guide them to the sale through information.

Give, give, give before you take.

Most web surfers are looking for information.

By providing the information that they are looking for through your content, you open the door to converting the visitors into customers.

And perhaps the greatest of web site tips… make sure the desires of your visitors are fulfilled... give them what they came for.
