Telemarketing Training
Train Your Staff So They're Able To "Handle The Heat"
To Be Armed is to Be Prepared.
Telemarketing training can be expensive, but is it worth it? This is a question that many business owners face. Telemarketing is viewed a nuisance to most people and a lot of receivers just hang the phone when they get a call. Maybe… just maybe… it's because the marketers lack training. When done correctly
telemarketing lead generation
can be a great, cost effective strategy. As a promoter of low budget marketing methods, I most certainly will not recommend or suggest expensive training, products or services to you or anyone else. What I will recommend is tips for getting around the expense.
Tips For Getting Around The Expense of Telemarketing Training…
Generally, small businesses do not have the available funds to send employees to training seminars or courses. If you’re considering telemarketing in your
marketing mix,
it is vitally important that someone in your organization knows the basics of telemarketing and is familiar with regulations in regard to this excellent
small business marketing
method. They can acquire this knowledge by attending telemarketing training or by conducting research, reading books or watching videos on the topic. You can engage all of your telemarketing staff in such self-education or you can outsource the service and conduct the training with your staff on site. Better yet, you – the owner, can educate yourself and take on the training role.
What You CANNOT Expect…
You cannot expect an employee to be successful when telemarketing without training – even if they are a salesperson at heart!Telemarketing IS sales... but it's different. Telemarketers must know how to deal to objections and, more importantly, how to manage irate people who object being called and don't hesitate to take out their frustrations on the caller. Untrained staff will not manage this situation very well at all. The net result could be damage to the reputation of you & your business. Also, employees that don't have any telemarketing training are more likely to become frustrated and dissatisfied with their job resulting in high employee turnover.
What Telemarketing Training Should Include…
It should include: - Instructions on how to use a telemarketing script to conduct the call and handle objections
- A basic overview of regulations that govern telemarketing and how to respond to a caller that asks to be removed from the telemarketing list and the follow-up procedures
- Observance of proper and improper ways to make calls
- Practice of simulated telemarketing calls that present different measures of agreement and conflict
Trainees will speak with people from all walks of life and many different socioeconomic groups. They’ll experience good calls that accomplish the company's goals, and they will experience bad calls where they get hung-up on or chewed up and spat out. It’s all in a day’s work and they should never take any negative comments as personal. They need to view each call as a new experience without letting bad calls get under their skin. A prime emphasis of telemarketing training should be to impress upon the trainee that engagements in telemarketing are not personal and therefore, in a heated discussion, they should never become defensive or feel that they are not doing a good job.
