Marketing Plans
YOU Need a Plan To Get From A to B... So Does YOUR Business
Your Business Needs To Know Where It's Going.
Marketing plans... don’t leave home without them. When you’re travelling by air and you land in an unfamiliar city and you pick up the hire car to drive to your hotel on the other side of town, how do you find out how to get there? Yes... that’s right. You whip out the map book or street directory and you figure out the best way to go. "That sounds like a plan" There’s no doubt that you’ll succeed because you’ve made a plan and all you need to do is stick to it. Simple stuff, no rocket science required. However, so many clever, capable, focussed people start a new business without giving any thought whatsoever to a marketing plan. BIG MISTAKE!! It just doesn’t make sense NOT to do one does it? So, listen up for some sound
small business advice.
What’s The Plan Stan?
When one considers starting a new business possibly one of the first things that pops into their head is –“Well, better get a business plan together to present to the bank” And they are crucial to your success and should clearly define WHERE your business is going. But, you need your marketing plan so you know HOW you’re going to get there. They’re your blueprint to success. And don’t write it & shove in a drawer, keep it out to review & update as & when required.
A Healthy Mindset.
Do you view planning as a cost or an investment?Do you believe that allocating funds to marketing is wasteful? Do you remain with your friends at networking events when clearly there are hot prospects about? You possibly should not be in business. Many new business owners assume customers will beat a path to their door as soon as they hang their shingle out. WRONG!! They say that nothing happens until something is sold, very true.But... nothing gets sold if it’s not marketed. Have a think about that. How do consumers know what’s for sale if it’s not marketed in some way or another. It may be as simple & basic as a fruit shop owner displaying new season bananas, but it’s marketing and the owners marketing plan was to display them is the right spot in his shop.
Things To Consider.
Here’s some things to consider for your
small business marketing
plan -• Brainstorm your unique selling proposition.
• Through some
marketing intelligence
find out what customers really want.
• Conduct a
SWOT analysis
and assess your strengths, weaknesses & your competition.
• Research & consider various marketing options such as
internet based marketing,
it’s a steep learning curve but well worth it. Learn all you can about
direct response copywriting
so you can write some
sales letters
and get a
direct response marketing
campaign going. Crank up your email & give
permission marketing
a shot.
• Don't base your business on price, those that live by the sword, die by the sword.
• Consider membership to a chamber of commerce, a service organization, a professional organization or a networking group.
The Right Profile.
Possessing the right attributes & skills to successfully implement your plans is important.Do you have the necessary self discipline & leadership skills? Are you a strong communicator? Do you excellent people skills? Are you a critical thinker? Successful marketing demands critical thinking, when do you place the ad & where. When’s the right time to pull the ad. How do I test & measure results to ensure I’m getting the biggest bang for my bucks? If you can cover all bases in your marketing plans, you're looking good for a great start in business.
