Internet Based Marketing
If You're Not On "The Net" Yet You Quite Simply, Don't Exist!
It's Just Way Too Big To Ignore.
To most people, Internet based marketing means launching a Web site and throwing up plenty of nice photos, a bit of text and a couple of banner ads. While this was certainly the case years ago, there are many more options to consider today. Internet marketing can be used by any type of business and is a cost-effective way to communicate information about your product or service to a vast number of people. Web sites were once a bit of a novelty for businesses... "The web... it's just a passing fad" They were used for 'show casing' your products and basically resembled a brochure with no interactive options at all. However nowadays they're now considered a 'must have' ingredient in your
marketing mix.
They're a Necessity Now.
Today, web sites & plenty of
web site traffic
are almost necessities for any legitimate business. Consumers are even becoming skeptical of businesses that do not have a web presence and with the low cost of a domain & hosting, there’s simply no reason why every business on Earth should not have one.
Hosting Services.
There’s now literally thousands of hosting services offering Web sites in a box.Basically they are templated and easy to follow so you don’t need to be a geek to get one up & running, nor do you need to posses great design skills as Web site design falls into the KISS category – “Keep it simple stupid”
Email Ho!
Email marketing is a relatively new internet based marketing method. With
email marketing strategies
the general idea is to provide an “opt-in” box on your Web site where surfers can sign up for some kind of freebie or free service. They’re basically giving you their contact details & approval to keep marketing to them, in return for the freebie. "And it works" Once you have a list you can start marketing any type of product or service. Newsletters are a great tool for communicating special offers, new product lines, etc, etc. Your contact list is THE most important ingredient in email marketing… look after it and keep it up to date.
SEM or SEO?
Search Engine Marketing, or SEM, is the basis of internet based marketing.Put simply, it’s optimizing your Web site so when someone types in a keyword or phrase that relates to your business, your Web site appears as close as possible to the front page (the first screen). Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, refers to techniques employed by a
search engine optimization specialist
to improve a Web site’s ranking on a search engine, typically Google, Yahoo, or MSN. Search engine rankings determine the order that your web page is listed. A listing on the first page of a search engine, particularly Google, is a huge advantage. You can hire an SEO expert for this task or, with some training, you can do this yourself.
Keywords.
Researching for the relevant keywords and key phrases to use on your Web site is the first step of an internet based marketing strategy. Keywords are the terms and phrases most commonly used for specific Internet topic searches. Use keywords as often as possible on your Web site, and even in your domain name, files, and folders if possible.
Directories.
Online directories are where people search for groups of suppliers, not unlike a phone directory. The search engines look kindly on your business if it appears in a number of directories, under a suitable heading. There are pay directories where you need to pay a yearly or one-off fee.
Yahoo
is a paid directory listing and is well regarded by the search engines. And there are free directories, such as
DMOZ
, which is also highly regarded by the search engines.
Or... You Can Pay for It.
Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is another Internet based marketing tool.If you pay enough you can have your ad on the front page of most search engines. It’s a bidding situation where the Web page of highest bidder for a particular keyword, appears on the first page of the search engine results when someone types in the right keyword. Google AdWords, Yahoo Sponsored Search, and Microsoft adCenter all offer PPC. A small business can usually manage their own PPC accounts however larger companies running multiple campaigns will generally contract a
PPC management
company to manage their campaigns for them. You can set a daily maximum number of “payment clicks” with Google AdWords, which will allow you to stay within your internet based marketing budget.
