Advertising Agencies

Sometimes They Do a Really Good Job...
Sometimes They Don't!

Great For Traditional Advertising... NOT Great For Pay Per Click Advertising?

Generally, advertising agencies present a compelling, benefit laden case for using their services.

However... they still haven't really caught up with pay per click advertising.

They make business owners second-guess themselves and create the desire for professional advertising services, for their business.

It is extremely tempting to hire an agency to take over the advertising function of your business, but is it worth it?

I think that Joseph Levine had it right when he offered this piece of great small business advice -

“You can fool all the people all the time if the advertising is right and the budget is big enough.”

That statement alone reveals both the pros and cons of hiring advertising agencies…

The Pros.

  • Agencies are staffed with brain tanks that know how to develop effective advertisements
  • They can expand your creativity and develop ideas that would never have crossed your mind
  • They deal with advertising every day and usually have good contacts
  • They already know about great deals as far as media sources go

The Cons.

  • The cost entailed in hiring an advertising agency

Why Advertising Agencies Are Bad For Small Business…

Small businesses have a hard time coming up with the money to run an advertising campaign in the first place.

Paying agency fees is usually not in the budget even though they may produce successful campaigns.

The cost is simply too prohibitive regardless of the results.

Advertising Is Not Really All That Hard…

Big businesses benefit from the services offered by advertising agencies and certainly most small businesses would love to… there’s no doubt.

It would definitely relieve a lot of stress but again, it is worth the cost?

If you are operating on a tight budget, it’s probably not.

The main purpose of advertising is to get the word out about your products & services by using any means that work including pending events.

That is, psychological tactics that create a “must check it out before it’s too late” mindset.

But really, you can create that reaction yourself by getting to know your target market.

Through your own marketing intelligence you possibly already know who they are and what they want or need.

You can easily turn their primary concerns into an attention-getting phrase and/or headline, then offer them the solution.

That is the heartbeat of advertising and you can do it without paying tons of money for someone else to do it for you!

Shop Around & Brainstorm.

Shop around and get the best deals in order to make the most of your advertising budget and you will do great!

If you need more ideas, have a brainstorming session with your employees, friends or family.

They may be aware of consumer issues and some of your benefits that you were previously unaware of.

Throw a BBQ, invite them around and pick their brains, you’ll be amazed at some of the ideas and you will definitely come out ahead budget-wise.

Think smart when you consider whether or not to hire advertising agencies.

I’m sure you will find a better solution that fits into your budget more suitably.

"I love being a grandmother. It's great to be finally greeted by someone who's bald, drooling and wearing a diaper who's not my date"
